Crash course
March 1st, 2007
Hey there, right now I am suffering from a bad flu plus of a some kind of ear infection so I don’t know how the gig on Saturday will play out, hopefully I’ll be able to get up on the stage. Well, that’s life. But let’s get to the point, here’s a little something about the songs on â€Through My Eyes†as I promised. I’ll begin with Crash, and will try to post the “behind the scenes†about the other two songs soon.
This chorus actually came to my mind when I was taking a shower. After that I just quickly composed the intro and the verses and recorded it. Originally the first verse was longer and the song was played in a lower key at a slower tempo, thus the overall feeling being much heavier than now. And the original demo ended to the solo, and needless to say, the solo was really crappy ‘cause I ain’t exactly the fastest or most imaginative soloist on the planet. We played “Crash†with the cover band me and Johannes played in before ESTD. We had to transpose the song to a higher key for our singer to be able to sing it. And it was a really good decision, the original vocal melody was too low. If I remember correctly, the part after the solo was born at rehearsals. First we went straight to the last chorus after the solo, but it didn’t work that well, so I just kinda doodled with my guitar for a minute and the clean part was born. Or actually just the chord progressions, and then the bass line. The distorted guitar is based on the solo, just a harmony line following the solo. The solo is courtesy of Johannes, so I can’t tell you the story behind that.
I actually dug up the first demo of Crash, from year 2004 I believe. Back in the days when I didn’t even know I would be playing in a band. Really heavy guitars and some cool backing vocals that didn’t end up to the present version. If it’s up to me, you will never ever hear this demo…

I found you through your MySpace (because you added Killer Aspect) and like Crash especially much. I haven’t read through everything yet but if there is anything available for purchase already, I’ll definitely put my hand on it (if you deliver to Germany, that is).
Great stuff!!!
