Live @ NummelaFest 2007
July 23rd, 2007
On the 9th of June we played our last show of the summer (or at least that was the original plan). The event was a private party organized by our friends.
After the Nokia gig our equipment was still all packed, so on Tuesday we went and set up only the necessary stuff and rehearsed a bit. Then on Thursday evening Ari called to say that he couldn’t make it to the gig. So the rest of us had to hold a panic meeting on what the heck we should do. We decided to go and play acoustic, a decision which later on proved to be just right. On Friday evening we rehearsed the songs through a couple of times. For Johannes it was relatively easy, ’cause we had played most of the songs at Nokia a week earlier, but Jouni had never played a few of the songs so it was a bit unclear how our performance would go… On top of that we didn’t bring our own gear with us and had pretty much no idea what sort of equipment we were going to use, but we decided just to go and have fun and not to worry about everything.
The festivities at Nummela began already on Friday, but we went there on Saturday. On Saturday noon Jouni came to pick us up. And what a trip it was. Since it was a really hot and sunny day the car was hot as hell. Luckily we Finnish people like sauna. After arriving at Nummela we took our stuff inside the building, had a quick tour and after that we laid ourselves down on the ground and enjoyed the UV beams, i.e. burned our skins red. Not that smart a move…
A house on the hill.
As I said, the festivities had begun on Friday, so most of the people were still waking up and dwelling in their hangovers. But they soon recovered and the party was on again. After dining and a few refreshments we checked the PA and it took only a while for us to realize that no one had brought a microphone. Luckily there was a karaoke mic, which suited us more than well. After a quick sound check Jouni and Johannes went through the songs briefly while I concentrated on drinking water.

We started our set somewhere around 8.30 P.M and begun with “Flames”. Johannes started the song way too slow, I mean WAY too slow but we somehow managed to play the song through although I was struggling with my cough. There were surprisingly no big difficulties during the gig, a few minor mistakes but that’s evident when you haven’t had enough time to rehearse. People really seemed to enjoy our playing, I believe that the bit more laid down acoustic set was just what they needed in their state of minds and not an energetic full-on electric set.
Setlist (as far as I remember… might include mistakes):
Flames
362
Crash
Night
Not Beautiful
It All Went Wrong
A stage filled with hairy feet.
On Friday there had played a band called Waurio. A few of the members were still there on Saturday and they entertained us throughout the day with cover songs and their own songs. They had this rhythm box called “Cajon”, to which we all fell in love. The sounds and versatile beats they managed to get out of that box were really nice. We must get ourselves such a box too, it would really enliven our acoustic set to a whole new level.
A dog.
All in all, a really nice gig, I had a blast on stage and off stage. The weather was really nice, at moments maybe even a bit too hot. Food was warm, refreshments were cold. What a way to start our summer break! Thank you all, you made this one of the best gigs in my book.
